Dr. Benson-Perez provides individual, family, and couples therapy and works with clients ages 8 and up.


Experience

Dr. Benson-Perez has worked in a variety of clinical settings, including a therapeutic day school, an outpatient hospital, a university counseling center, and private practice. She has worked with individuals, couples, and families across the lifespan, developing a flexible, compassionate, and individualized approach to treatment. 


Her practice is grounded in evidence-based modalities, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and is informed by humanistic-existential and relational frameworks. At the heart of her approach is a commitment to empathy and to validating each client's lived experiences. She meets clients where they are, tailoring treatment to match their specific needs while helping them build practical skills and work toward long-term personal growth.  


Dr. Benson-Perez has training in Imago Relationship Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples, helping partners communicate in ways that foster healthy conflict resolution, active listening, and deeper emotional intimacy.

Recognizing that progress thrives on a holistic support system, she values collaborative care and regularly partners with psychiatrists, physicians, educators, and other mental health professionals to support clients. Drawing on her experience in a therapeutic day school, she is well-versed in IEPs and 504 Plans, and is passionate about supporting parents in advocating for their children while strengthening collaboration between home and school.


Education

Dr. Benson- Perez earned her doctorate in clinical psychology from The Chicago School (Chicago campus) and completed her pre-doctoral internship at BASICS Group Practice, LLC, in Maryland. Prior to her graduate studies, she earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from New York University, with a minor in Child and Adolescent Mental Health. While in New York, Dr. Benson-Perez co-facilitated a social anxiety group for transgender and gender-expansive youth at NYU Langone Children’s Hospital.


Dr. Benson-Perez’s research has largely focused on the intersections of sexual health, identity, and mental wellness. She has presented original research on the relationship between endometriosis and mental health at a regional conference, and her dissertation examined how parental support shapes quality of life for transgender men.
